Monday, February 22: LunaMetrics Presentation on Google Analytics

Alex Moore from LunaMetrics will give a presentation on Google Analytics for CIS students on Monday, February 22nd at 4 p.m. in the Wheatley Atrium.

Team Members still needed for Mylan Hackathon (deadline is Feb 12!)

The ACM RMU Chapter is looking to form two to four teams to compete in the Mylan Hackathon, with each team being composed of five members.  The event will be held in Pittsburgh on February 26-27, 2016.  The group is looking for both CIS students and engineering students to compose their teams.  The Hackathon will involve brainstorming and coming up with a technology solution to meet a technology-in-healthcare challenge.

Top Secret Colonials Participate in CMU Data Privacy Day

Snapchat-2544628316288256971A group of Cyber Forensics and Information Security students, including members of the Top Secret Colonials group, along with Dr. Karen Paullet, attended Data Privacy Day at CMU on Thursday, January 28, 2016.

The students attended a Privacy Clinic called “Learn how to Protect your Privacy” and listened to the keynote speaker, Ed Felten, Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer.  His talk was entitled “Making Privacy Work for Everyone.”

University of Pittsburgh seeking Data Analyst/Programmer

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking applicants for a Data Analyst/Programmer position.

Job Summary
The Data Analyst/Programmer will work in the Office of Provost to improve existing data management systems and provide business intelligence support to the office. Duties include designing new database management systems to automatize the production of existing reports, developing and implementing programs to process and manipulate large datasets, writing queries for extracting data, preparing static reports with both tabular and graphical presentations as well as web-based active reports, and providing data programming and analytic support on a range of research projects. In developing new systems, the candidate will be responsible for the needs assessment, analysis, design, testing, and documentation. Candidate must have experience working within a team environment, be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines. The incumbent must be proficient in report generation software (e.g., Crystal Reports), query writing (e.g., SQL, Cognos), web crawling, relational databases (e.g., Access), visualization software (e.g., Tableau), and web publishing. Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS), program management software, sharepoint, and data analytics a plus.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Business Information Systems, or related field. Two to three years of experience in database management, business intelligence, or information technology, or some combination of related experience and graduate education required.

RMU Library YouTube Channel

As you get further into the semester, remember that the RMU Library has many resources available to you for the various types of research you will be assigned in your courses.

Web Development Opportunity

An alumni-led group is looking to add a web developer onto their team. This will be a project based job with possibility of recurring employment for future updates and development.

The performance specifications for this project include: It must have account management with an integrated chat system. It must be able to safely handle credit card information, it also must be able to have our customers search for user listed items as well as search the web for comparative pricing from companies such as Amazon.

There will be compensation for the project and can be discussed further upon meeting.
