Job Description:

  • The DHS Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative is specifically designed to provide current undergraduate and graduate students with cybersecurity-focused volunteer assignments intended to expose them to the field of cybersecurity and provide excellent work experience. Selected students will support the cybersecurity mission at one of the following DHS components: Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), or the United States Coast Guard (U.S. Coast Guard).

Qualifications:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  •  Be currently enrolled at least half time in pursuit of an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree at an accredited college or university with 1) a major in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM); 2) a major in cybersecurity-related studies; and/or 3) an interest in working in the field cybersecurity upon graduation.
  • Have projected graduation date of September 2016 or later. (Note students scheduled to graduate prior to September 2016 are not eligible for this program—unless they are graduating with an Associate’s degree and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, or they are graduating with Bachelor’s degree and pursuing a Master’s degree).
  •  Possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale that can be verified via a Fall 2015 transcript that includes all courses taken to date.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched the 2016 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative. The initiative targets current undergraduate and graduate students and is a part of the Department’s efforts to build a cybersecurity talent pipeline by working with secondary and post-secondary institutions and other key partners in academia and the private sector.

Through the Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative, students are able to learn about the DHS cybersecurity mission by completing hands-on cybersecurity work and building technical experience in key areas such as digital forensics, network diagnostics, and incident response.

In the 2016 Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative program cycle, over 80 student volunteer assignments are available at over 40 local DHS field offices across the country and eight participating DHS Components, to include Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Office of Policy/Cyber, Infrastructure and Resilience Policy, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Openings for Information Technology Specialists at Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is recruiting candidates for the Acquisition Professional Career Program (APCP) for Information Technology Specialists, an Entry-Level Acquisition Career Development Program in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

We are looking for exceptional, intelligent, self-starters to train, develop skills and gain the necessary experience to become a sought after acquisition professional.  These important positions will involve support of information technology related contracting and procurement activities for mission-critical goods and services in support of the DHS mission of securing our homeland.  As a member of the DHS team, you will have the chance to put your academic achievements and professional experience to work on behalf of our nation’s security by providing information technology procurement and acquisition services throughout  Department of Homeland Security.  In public service, you’ll be in a position of public trust and will be able to contribute immensely and truly make a difference.
