Mylan Hackathon 2016

Mylan is a global pharmaceutical company looking to provide the entire world with new medicine, and set new healthcare standards across the globe.

The ACM RMU Chapter is looking to form two to four teams to compete in the Mylan Hackathon, with each team being composed of five members.  The event will be held in Pittsburgh on February 26-27, 2016.  The group is looking for both CIS students and engineering students to compose their teams.  The Hackathon will involve brainstorming and coming up with a technology solution to meet one of these technology-in-healthcare challenges:

  • How could access to information overcome obstacles to HIV treatment in emerging markets?
  • How can information collected by Microsoft Band 2.0 be used to paint meaningful “health pictures?”
  • Via a Microsoft Kinect, how can we expand on its capabilities to enrich its use in telemedicine?
  • How will your voice change healthcare in the future (e.g. use of something similar to Amazon Echo)?
  • How can we better understand the state of “access” in the world?

More on the challenges can be found here:
http://mylanapps.com/hacksummit/pittsburgh.aspx

If students are interested to participate, they should contact the ACM RMU Chapter President, Mohammed AlJaser at moast145@mail.rmu.edu.
Listed below are the rules and description for the event itself:

Before the event:

  • Form your team, choose your challenge and talk about potential solutions. Assign roles and responsibilities within your team based on each member’s talents and interests. Consider what other teams might build and whether your solution will stand out.

During the event:

  • There is limited time to build your solution, so wasted moments may affect your outcome. Be honest and critical early on, that way, you’ll have time to course correct, if necessary.
  • Talk to the the Mylan coaches and ask for advice

Presentations:

  • When the buzzer sounds, you’ll have 5 minutes to present your solution. The cutoff time will be strictly enforced.
  • Teams will draw numbers out of hat to determine presentation order. Determine presentation roles – e.g., who will speak, who will run the laptop – in advance.
  • Designate one laptop as the presentation machine. Test loading material on it before you present. Make sure you can connect the laptop to our projector; we support VGA and HDMI.
  • Bring clickers or laser pointers with you, to help speed up the presentation process

The Black T-Shirt Cyber Forensics Challenge

The staff in Stevenson University’s Cyber Forensics program is working with the programs at approximately 50 other colleges and universities in launching The Black T-Shirt Cyber Forensics Challenge, which is a joint academic and industry contest designed to promote interest in digital forensics, foster relationships among academic institutions, develop relationships between academia and the corporate sector, and provide a valuable hands-on exercise for learning and training.

We are looking for teams of students between 1-3 members to enter the challenge. There is no cost and this would be a great way to raise awareness of your skills and the Top Secret Colonials. We are permitted to have multiple teams but the teams are NOT permitted to work together. The annual challenge, which has already been built for this year, will run from January 1, 2016 to April 1, 2016. Challengers can register at any time in that window; once registered, links will be provided to download the data. Submissions will be due on April 1. The results will be scored in the month of April 2016.

Tools will not be provided but you can use FTK, the Password Recovery Toolkit, Splunk, DEFT, Autopsy, etc. to analyze the images. Teams are permitted to use whatever tools and methods they choose but they must be available and able to be recreated by the judges. Each member will receive a Black Cyber Forensics Challenge t-shirt.

This year’s contest involves confirming allegations of an exfiltration of company information by analyzing two computer images and network traffic. Point structure hasn’t been released yet. In addition to the main challenge, “Mini” Challenges” will be run throughout the year. These are similar to the annual challenge but smaller. The fall challenge for next year involves an executive returning from a business trip to find that there were very strange charges on her phone bill that she did not make.

More details can be found online at http://cyberforensicschallenge.com. Please email Dr. Paullet (paullet@rmu.edu) immediately so we can start forming teams.
