GNC Undergraduate Information Security Co-Op

GNC has an open position for an undergraduate level co-op for the Fall semester of 2023, located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Information Security College Co-Op will provide business-enabling security services, protect the company, and gain professional experience as a member of our corporate Information Security team. This position will work in partnership with GNC’s Information Security professionals and cross-functional subject matter experts to perform three primary duties:

  • User access services, including provisioning, de-provisioning, and auditing user access
  • Security operations monitoring, investigating, and responding to security events
  • Complete a project to increase the efficiency of the Information Security function through automation or business process improvement.

This co-op role will be full-time (40 hours per week) during the fall semester (September to December 2023). Any student who is interested must be available in Pittsburgh for the duration of the program.

Join the Top Secret Colonials (TSC)

The Top Secret Colonials (TSC) will hold their first meeting for this semester on Tuesday, January 17th in the Wheatley Cafe at 3:30 pm. We have a lot of events planned for the semester and are ready to get you all involved! 

If you have friends that are interested in joining the club, please encourage them to come as well.

Below you will find some general information on why you would want to become an official member. Dues can be paid via the link, to one of the officers or you can drop off the dues to Dr. Paullet (Wheatley 229). If she is not there, please make sure that the dues are in an envelope with your name, email address and t-shirt size. 

The Top Secret Colonials are always accepting members. Please read below about the benefits of being an official TSC member. 

Yearly dues to be a member of the Top Secret Colonials is $25.00.  Please know that by joining you will be given the annual TSC t-shirt once we have this year’s design plus you will be given a bag with several TSC items upon payment of the annual dues.  If you use Paypal please send an email with your t-shirt size.   There are several benefits to paying dues and becoming a member that I would like to mention:

Congratulations to 2022 TRISS Scholarship Winners

It is with great pride that the CIS Department recognizes the RMU students who were recipients of 2022 TRISS Scholarships. This year 9 Top Secret Colonial (TSC) – Cybersecurity students were awarded money from the Three Rivers Information Security Symposium (TRISS). TRISS takes place in the Pittsburgh region each year and is the largest information security conference in this region. Students were required to be registered full-time in cybersecurity or a similar IT degree and were required to submit a transcript (3.0 GPA or higher), letters of recommendation, and a personal statement to be considered. 

The scholarship recipients were as follows:

Virtual Information Session for DoD Cyber Scholarship Program Today (11/29) at 2pm

The Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Scholarship Program provides full ride scholarship grants to promote the education, recruitment, and retention of qualified and selected students in cybersecurity studies at institutions with National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) designations, including RMU.

Dr. Ping Wang will be holding a virtual information session today, November 29, at 2:00pm. to discuss the program, eligibility requirements, and the application process.

RMU Professors Win Best Paper Award at CONISAR 2022

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Slonka (RMU D.Sc. Graduate, Class of 2014) from Saint Francis University and Dr. Sushma Mishra, Dr. Peter Draus, and Dr. Natalya Bromall from the Computer Information Systems department at RMU for winning the Best Paper Award at the Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) 2022! CONISAR 2022 was held in Clearwater, FL on November 2-5, 2022.

Their winning research paper was focused on organizational security governance and was titled “Measurement, reporting, and monitoring organizational security governance: A qualitative analysis of security professionals’ experiences.”
