Presentation on Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Data Science – November 7th

The Pittsburgh Women in Machine Learning and Data Science and Target would like to invite the Robert Morris University community to a presentation on Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Data Science.

 

The evening will feature interactive sessions led by Data Scientists in and outside the Pittsburgh area including the Director of Data Science at Target, Big Data Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, and Lead Data Scientists at Petuum, Inc. This is a great opportunity to network, and learn about real world applications of Data Science in our city.  There will be refreshments and SET credit for undergraduate students!

You may start and end at any time between 9:00am and 4:00pm.  Come late or leave early.  You may continue working on the MTM contest at home, class, or school until December 31, 2018.

Who is invited?
Any major, level of education, student, teacher, parent, or friend of any age above 16 are invited.  ANYONE with a desire to learn or use a mainframe is invited.  No computer experience is necessary!

What is a z System Mainframe?
A mainframe is the most reliable, scalable, and secured hardware platform.  Mainframes are used to support and process major credit card transactions, bank transactions, and more.  The processing power of one z/14 mainframe is comparable to 8,000 Linux or Windows servers on an Intel or AMD platform.

Dr. Davis, Dr. Sullivan, and Dr. Stewart Receive Best Paper Award at IACIS 2018

Alan Davis, Professor of Computer and Information Systems, Dr. Adam Sullivan, Manager, Instructional Design and Faculty Support Services, and Dr. John Stewart, Associate Professor of Computer and Information Systems (not pictured), were honored for excellence in research at the 58th Annual International Association for Computer Information Systems (IACIS) conference in Clearwater, FL.

On October 5, 2018, Dr. Davis, Dr. Sullivan, and Dr. Stewart received the Best Paper Award in the Pedagogy category, for their paper titled EdTech Effectiveness: Using Screencasts to Increase Learning Outcomes in Information Systems Curricula.

Academic research papers accepted and presented at the IACIS conference are published in the Issues in Information Systems (IIS) journal, a double-blind refereed, serial publication (ISSN 1529-7314).  IIS publishes research in both practice and pedagogical topics focused on the field of information systems.

Congratulations to the authors on their dedication to excellence in scholarship.

Pittsburgh Steelers seeking Junior Network Engineer

This position is for a Junior Network Engineer for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is located in Pittsburgh, PA.  The Junior Network Engineer will be responsible for maintaining existing networks and working with the Network and Security Operations Manager on best practices and documentation.  This position will be required to perform onsite help desk and desktop support for growing user base.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •         Provide level 1 support for Heinz Field existing LAN/Wireless LAN
  •         Support and troubleshoot desktop and laptop computers, cell phones and mobile devices
  •         Respond to and resolve network connectivity issues
  •         Maintain and configure VOIP phone system at Heinz Field
  •         Provide and troubleshoot connectivity for 3rd parties visiting Heinz Field
  •         Perform basic configuration changes on existing switches, routers and firewalls
  •         Provide onsite support for all events located at Heinz Field
  •         Responsible for providing and maintaining network and security documentation
  •         Perform external/internal vulnerability scanning, resolution and documentation
  •         Configure and distribute new desktop and laptop computers
KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware and software technologies
  • Knowledge of network security implementation, managed security services and best practices
  • Hands on experience in networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS), routing, switching and security
  • Hands on experience with firewalls, VPN implementation, network segregation and network troubleshooting
  • Hands on experience with enterprise wireless infrastructure
  • Hands on experience with desktop support
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft and Adobe products
  • Advanced knowledge of Anti-Malware and Anti-Virus products
  • Ability to solve problems independently
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with staff and 3rd parties
  • Superior network and security documentation skills
Education and Experience:
  •         1-3 years’ experience
  •         Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent

Data Analytics Course Names Updated

INFS4260 and INFS6730 (formerly Data Warehousing) have been renamed Data Integration for Analytics. The course names and course content of both courses have been updated to reflect the latest concepts and technologies in the field​s​ of Data Analytics​ and Data Science​.

Both INFS4260 and INFS6730 may be taken as part of the Data Analytics degree programs (BS in Data Analytics or MS in Data Analytics, respectively), or as Electives.

IT Technical Support Internship

Heeter Printing Company is seeking an IT Technical Support Intern.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Assisting staff personnel with but not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting PC and Mac hardware issues
  • Conducting software updates and resolving errors
  • Troubleshooting printer errors
  • Password resets
  • Network connectivity issues
  • Maintaining the VoIP system and phone issues

Assisting IT Infrastructure team with but not limited to:

  • Active Directory user creation
  • Distribution group creation
  • Minor server troubleshooting
  • Managing email server tasks, such as mailbox creation and user management
  • Maintaining software licensing
  • Maintaining vendor service agreements
  • Operating system updates
  • Information technology documentation both creation and maintaining

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of basic networking
