Internship at Highmark Health

Highmark Health are currently seeking undergraduate students who are on a Computer Science/Information Technology Career Path and who are searching for an internship opportunity to jump start their careers.

Interns will be exposed to a world class software tool that utilizes artificial intelligence technology in order to define people and companies and their relationship to Highmark, in addition to relational database concepts for both Oracle and Teradata databases and work extensively with Structured Query Language (SQL) within Pennsylvania’s largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurer. Interns will also be exposed to Microsoft Visio, Teradata SQL Assistant, and other software tools used by the EDW business team.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong academic background in Computer Science / Information Technology
• College Junior or Senior preferred
• Minimum 3.50 GPA
• Must possess proven analytical and interpersonal skills
• Strong written, communication and presentation skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of Agile Methodology

Ninth Annual Intersections Undergraduate Research Conference

The Ninth Annual Intersections Undergraduate Research Conference will take place April 24, 2015 in the Sewall Center. The Honors Program would like to invite students to apply and present their research papers and creative projects.

Student have three options for presenting: 10-Minute Presentation, Poster or 50-Minute Panel Discussion

This conference highlights various disciplines and subject areas. All majors and years are invited to present. 
 
Students will also receive SET undergraduate research credit for presenting at the conference. Students also have the chance to be awarded the distinction of “best paper” or “best poster” from the conference.
 
The deadline to submit an application to present is April 1, 2015.  Students can find the application here. Additional information about the conference can be found at rmu.edu/urc

Wakefern Food Corporation is the nation’s largest retailer-owned cooperative, and the wholesale distribution and merchandising arm for ShopRite supermarkets.  They currently have an opening for a Leader in Training (Management Trainee – Technical Track) located in Edison, NJ.

As Management Trainee you will participate in a 20-month program that will prepare you for a programmer analyst position within the organization. Additionally, you will participate in all life-cycle activities in support of various IT projects.

Qualifications include:

  • Four-year college degree required (Information Technology/Business Management, preferred).
  • Career interest in Information Technology and Project Management.
  • Good working knowledge of programming languages (Java, HTML, JavaScript), debugging techniques and systems development life-cycle.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in programming discipline, utilities, operating system, etc., is essential; working experience in another business system is desirable; but not mandatory.
  • Experience with WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal is a plus.
  • An understanding or interest in developing mobile applications, either natively or using a cross-platform development tool (ie. Worklight) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the DB2/Oracle/SQL Server database platforms and SQL would be considered a plus.
  • Interest in keeping up with the latest technologies and determining ways that that they can be applied to the business.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks as well as report to multiple management levels.
  • Proven leadership, assertiveness and interpersonal skills proficiency is essential.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to write and deliver both formal and informal presentations.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years supermarket or other retail/wholesale related experience is preferred.

The selected individuals will work with senior members of the team and assist with tasks of low to medium complexity.
