Top Secret Colonials Buffalo Wild Wings Event

On Tuesday, February 28th, the Top Secret Colonials will be sponsoring a Buffalo Wild Wings night. From 4:00 pm to close, Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 10% of their net sales to the Top Secret Colonials; all you have to do is show them the flyer and ticket (attached below). “The Job-Not Just a Job” Resume Writing Tips from the Recruiters

On Wednesday, February 22nd, the Top Secret Colonials will be sponsoring a Resume Writing Tips event with speaker David Tyburski from S2scout. David will discuss what is needed in a resume to find the perfect job. The event will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the Wheatley Atrium.

David Tyburski is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and RMU graduate. He worked in the I.T. field for over a decade before he created S2scout. He leads a team of seasoned recruiters (called “Scouts”) who are dedicated to helping clients and candidates find the right opportunity as soon as possible.

The intent of this presentation is to educate students about finding “the job,” not just “a job.”  I hope to do so by sharing my knowledge and some of the “good, bad and the ugly” experiences I’ve had during my tenure in the staffing industry.

TSC Chipotle Fundraiser

The Top Secret Colonials will be having a fundraiser at the Chipotle at 310 McHolme Drive in Pittsburgh (Robinson) on Monday, February 13th. The fundraiser will take place between 4pm and 9pm. All you have to do is either bring the flyer, show it on your smartphone, or tell the cashier that you’re supporting the Top Secret Colonials. 50% of the proceeds will go to Top Secret Colonials. Securing What You Don’t Own or Control – The Current State of WiFi-Security

On Thursday, February 9th, there will be a presentation entitled “Securing What You Don’t Own or Control – The Current State of WiFi-Security,” by Rick Farina. Farina will talk about how to protect data and systems from the expanding WiFi threat landscape. The presentation will take place from 4:30pm to 5:30pm in the Wheatley Atrium. This is a Top Secret Colonials sponsored event.

Rick Farina is a well-known wireless expert who has spoken at a variety of security conferences, including DEFCON (which is one of the world’s largest annual hacker conventions). Farina runs a Wireless Capture the Flag contest at several conventions throughout the country. Farina is the director of Research and Development at the company Pwnie Express. He is responsible for researching, developing, and marketing leading wireless and IoT (Internet of Things) security products. Farina’s expertise is in wireless security and wireless hacking.

Highmark Health Solutions Presentation – February 16

Highmark Health Solutions will be giving a presentation in the Wheatley Atrium from 4:00-5:45 PM on Thursday, February 16th.

They are looking to promote internships and full-time positions in Application Development, Project Management, and Business Analysis.

If you arrive at the beginning of the session, you can earn SET credit.  Free pizza will also be available!

Russian Hacking Panel

The University of Pittsburgh will be hosting a panel on Russian Hacking on Thursday, February 2nd, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. At this event, several panelists will discuss a variety of topics, including: Russian activities in cyberspace, U.S. and Russian views on cyber tool usage, U.S. response to Russian activities, and Russia’s possible effect on the U.S. presidential election.

There will four panelists at this event:

  • Andrei Soldatov, a Russian investigative journalist and security services expert
  • Ellen Nakashima, a national security reporter for The Washington Post
  • Luke Dembosky, a former Deputy District Attorney General for National Security and former U.S. Department of Justice representative at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow
  • Keith Mularski, a Supervisory Special Agent for the FBI in Pittsburgh

The event will be streamed live at law.pitt.edu/cybertalk. Students can only attend the event at the University of Pittsburgh if they have already registered for it. Registration for the event closed yesterday, January 30th. However, everyone is welcome to watch the event live through the link above.

Russian Hacking Panel Flyer

12-Hour Gaming Event

The Top Secret Colonials will be hosting a 12-hour gaming marathon event on campus on Saturday, November 12th. The event will take place from 11am to 11pm in the Ferris Ballroom in Yorktown.

The event is Bring Your Own Equipment: screens, servers, consoles, etc. TSC will provide necessary power and Ethernet connections.

The cost to attend the event is $5. All proceeds will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. SET Credit will also be given for attendance. Food and drink will be provided.

If you are a student or upcoming/recent graduate who is looking to get their foot in the door with a government institution, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is looking to fill a variety of positions. These positions are primarily in the Human Resources, Finance, Readiness, Security, and Acquisition fields. Lunch and Learn – SDLC Partners

SDLC Partners and the Career and Professional Development Center has invited RMU students to a “Lunch and Learn” program on Wednesday, October 19th at 12pm. The program will be held in the Career Center classroom located in the Benjamin Rush building.

SDLC Partners is a business and technology consulting firm. They will have speakers on hand to talk about resume writing, interview tips, and open positions within their firm.

The event is free and open to all faculty and students. A light lunch will be provided.

Software Fundamentals Workshop – Friday, October 21st

RMU’s Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) will be having a Workshop for Software Fundamentals on Friday, October 21st from 5pm-7pm in John Jay 124.

Topics for the workshop will include:

  • Object – Oriented Programming
  • Writing Efficient Code
  • Troubleshooting & Debugging
  • Project Planning Interview Questions
