DHS Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative – Deadline extended to January 23rd!

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the launch of the 2015 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative. This program is part of the department’s ongoing effort to develop the next generation of cyber talent, and in the coming months, DHS expects to place approximately 75 undergraduate volunteers in cybersecurity-focused assignments at more than 50 locations across the country.

Volunteers who are selected will have a unique opportunity to learn about the DHS cybersecurity mission and to engage in hands-on cybersecurity work related to digital forensics, network diagnostics, incident response, and a variety of other specialties.

Applications will be accepted until January 9, 2015 via USAJOBS.gov. The deadline for applications has been extended to January 23, 2015!

They are currently seeking Juniors or Seniors to participate in their North America Information Technology Intern Program. The primary responsibility of the role will be to identify, analyze, plan, design, document and deliver technical solutions to meet the business requirements. The interns will have the opportunity to assist IT members to gain a direct view of what is involved in supporting ongoing IT efforts. The selected individuals will work with senior members of the team and assist with tasks of low to medium complexity. Candidates must be available for a 3-month summer assignment (May – August 2015) at Bayer’s Pittsburgh, PA site.

IT Intern Positions for Spring 2015 at Michael Baker Corporation

There are open positions as an IT Intern available at Michael Baker Corporation located in Moon Township.  This Spring 2015 Internship pays $15/hour.

Some of the responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Assist technical professionals in discipline
  • Perform simple to moderate calculations
  • Perform routine analysis
  • Prepare basic reports
  • Write, edit, or create basic documents and communications
  • Assist with data collection, input verification, and manipulation

There is no work experience necessary for this position.

You must have a minimum of a 2.5 overall GPA and one year of coursework completed.

FedEx Offering Paid 2015 Summer Internships in Business and IT

FedEx is offering a 10-week internship assignment for students pursuing a college degree in business or IT fields. Assignments will be directly related to the intern’s academic degree.

The Pittsburgh Technology Council is hosting a free recruiting event for students, as well as for entry-level positions. Smith Micro Software is hiring!

If you are looking for an internship in the Pittsburgh area, there are a couple of new job postings on ColonialTrak that were posted recently. You must apply fast as they close on November 28th! There are three internship positions, all for Smith Micro Software, Inc., which start this summer. Smith Micro Software is a company that provides solutions to mobile platforms on a corporate level. Quality Engineering Intern (there are two of these positions available, Second Posting)

Intern goals:

  • Completing manual testing for on-time delivery to customer projects
  • Assisting in the automation effort of these projects to increase future efficiency of testing efforts

Projects interns will be working on:

  • Avatar

Qualifications:

Content Management Intern

Intern goals:

  • Learn how animated Avatars are created, reviewed and submitted for iOS and Android applications
  • Test and publish content for use in a mobile application for Android and iOS
  • Review content from artists and assist in finalizing of content for publication
  • Provide support and manage deliverables from artists
  • Draw and animate characters for use in a mobile application-Projects interns will be working on

Qualifications:

  • Lives and breathes technology and internet, especially messaging applications that use stickers, Avatars and emoticons
  • Studying animation, new media or related field
  • At least a 3 three month commitment of at least 20 hours a week but preference given to those who can commit to a longer term
  • Interest in digital art, comics, and messaging applications a bonus
