20-Year Club Annual Scholarship – Applications due April 1st

20-YEAR CLUB ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

This is a one-time award which will be applied towards tuition and books during the 2016-2017 academic year.

$2600 Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Full-time undergraduate student enrolled at RMU
  • Minimum 60 credits (at least 30 earned at RMU) as of 1/1/16; Maximum 90 credits
  • Minimum GPA = 3.5

Note: full institutional tuition scholarship recipients are not eligible.  Also, previous winners of the 20-Year Club scholarship are not eligible.

The scholarship winner will be selected based upon a blind review of applications by the 20-year scholarship club committee.  Committee members will review the application and the required essay to determine the winner.

Resco Products, Inc. seeking IT Applications Support Specialist

Resco Products, Inc. is seeking recent graduates and/or upcoming May 2016 graduates for an IT Applications Support Specialist position.

Job Summary

This position is a critical part of Resco’s IT team by providing support, testing, implementation and troubleshooting for business critical applications including but not limited to ERP, business intelligence, and Salesforce.com software.  This technical and analytical role will be responsible for supporting key components of the business in the definition, development and implementation of business technology solutions and for maintaining systems.  In addition, this position provides assistance to other members of the IT team for network support.  Will report directly to  the Information Technology Manager.

Requirements:

  • Some experience preferred but not required
  • B.S. in Computer Science / Information Systems or related field
  • 0-2+ years administrating Salesforce
  • Experience with ERP applications
  • 0-2+ years experience in IT administering Windows environments
  • Proficiency in Windows 7/8/10 and Office 2010-2016
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Remote administration
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail
  • The ability to prioritize, self-manage and seek help when necessary
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Limited travel

The following qualifications would be a plus:  A+ Certification, Experience with BI software, Knowledge of QAD enterprise applications, SQL or Progress 4GL knowledge and experience

RMU Library YouTube Channel

As you get further into the semester, remember that the RMU Library has many resources available to you for the various types of research you will be assigned in your courses.

The library has together a YouTube channel with helpful videos showing you how to use some of the online search and request features they have to offer.  These videos are great if you are unfamiliar with the library’s services or as refreshers if you haven’t used them in a while.  Check out the videos here:

Opportunity for Blog Design and Promotion Work

A local company is seeking part-time help developing a blog site. Specifically, they are looking for help in layout and design as well as traffic building (search engine optimization, etc.).  This would be a paid position (hourly).

Seeking Students Interested in Building a Social Media Site

A student innovation group, Enactus RMU, is looking for people interested in developing a social media webpage that will allow students to create a network for studying collaboratively.  This project will cover the entire development lifecycle: from requirements definition, to deployment and maintenance.  Developers will be able to work at their own pace using online collaborative tools. They are looking for anyone who is interested and willing to learn however ideal candidates will have some of the following skills:

1) All developers should have knowledge of the agile development method, knowledge of software documentation best practices, and a willingness to thoroughly document all code.

2) Developers who wish to work on the webpage design should be familiar with web design best practices,  and have knowledge of HTML 5, JavaScript, and CSS.

3) Developers who wish to work on the servers should know how to work with Ubuntu Linux (or any Debian based Linux distribution), have skills in JAVA programming, knowledge of MySQL, be familiar with the TCP/IP model, and have an understanding of distributed file system concepts.

Seeking CIS Department Blog Writers

The CIS department is currently seeking blog writers.  This volunteer position will earn you some notoriety (your name as part of the Blog Writing Staff on our About page) and SET credit in the Arts, Culture, and Creativity category.  You will be asked to edit and/or write a minimum of 5 blog articles per month.  Work can be done independently from your own computer.  You can be provided with material for blog posts and/or come up with your own original ideas, per your own preference.  You will also have opportunities to suggest improvements for the blog in both format and content areas.  Please contact Dr. Jamie Pinchot if you are interested in volunteering.

In addition, the CIS department is seeking one CIS Department Blog Writer/Assistant.  This will be a paid work-study position ($9/hour up to 5 hours per week) that will be available for the full academic year 2015-2016.  You must be eligible for Federal work-study to be approved for this grant-funded position.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit and/or write blog articles on topics assigned by the faculty editor in a timely manner
  • Work with members of the CIS department and RMU community to discover topics and issues for the blog and follow up on those topics in future blog posts
  • Monitor IT-related news outlets to discover topics and issues appropriate for the blog and follow up by writing blog posts
  • Manage and edit media related to blog posts (images, video)
  • Assist the faculty editor with management of the blog sidebar items/links and technical features in WordPress

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Enthusiasm for IT-related topics
  • Ability to manage tasks and time effectively
  • Skills in writing for the Web, editing images, editing video, and/or WordPress is a plus.
