National Cyber Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA) Summer Internship Program

Who we are:

The National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA) is a Pittsburgh based globally focused non-profit corporation committed to identifying, mitigating and neutralizing cyber crime threats. The NCFTA operates by conducting real time information sharing by analysis and subject matter experts in the public, private and academic sectors. Through these partnerships, the NCFTA proactively identifies cyber threats in order to help its partners take preventive measures to mitigate and neutralize those threats. About the Program:

The NCFTA offers talented students an innovative work experience in a growing sector that will help them enhance their professional development and academic goals. Our program offers paid internships for undergraduate and graduate degree students. It is an intensive 12-week program that gives rising college seniors or graduate level students the opportunity to work in areas such as intellectual property fraud, financial fraud, and malware and cyber threats in order to build knowledge and skills in the intelligence analysis field. The student will receive training and be part of the team from day one. They will be assigned to a manager and mentor to enable them to quickly learn and acclimate. During their first few weeks on the team, they will participate in the internship orientation to become familiar with the NCFTA’s various resources, policies and procedures.

Role of the Intern:

Selected candidates will work on various organizational program initiatives. Duties will focus on conducting research and data collection using various tools and applications as well as proactive research in open sources to produce a finished product for dissemination. The intern will engage in collaboration with NCFTA partners and peers and be expected to participate in program meetings.

Internships with our Malware & Cyber Threats Program are more technical in nature and, as such, applicants with a sound technical background are desired. These duties may include writing scripts to automate processes (e.g. Python & shell/bash scripts), reviewing and analyzing malicious code (e.g. C, C++, VB.NET, Assembly, Java), and creating databases (MySQL, MS SQLServer, Postgress). Students with working knowledge of Mac OSX may have an opportunity to work on special projects.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance
• Major studies in areas of consideration: International Affairs/Politics/Relations; Intelligence/Security Studies; Computer Science; Information Security; Business Intelligence or related fields. Other majors are considered on a case by case basis.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Excellent writing skills and strong analytical thinking
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
• Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Chinese and Eastern European language skills desirable but not required
• Extensive experience with computers and networking highly preferred but not required

Database Administration Intern – Federated Investors

MAJOR DUTIES:
• May work with both SQL and / or Oracle DBA teams.

PC Support Internship at Dollar Bank

The purpose of the PC Support intern position is to provide first level technical support to branch and back office users. First level technical support may include, but not be limited to, the following: cloning workstations, installing workstations in the back office and branches, racking servers, moving computer equipment, performing routine hardware and software upgrades, and first level troubleshooting. The position reports to a PC Support Officer.

Technical Qualifications:
* Completion of 1 year of college/technical school to include classes in Windows operating systems, PC repair, and networking.
* A working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP.
* A strong commitment to customer service.
* Occasional availability to work after hours and weekends.
* Occasional overtime may be necessary to accomplish group goals.

Principal Activities:
* Install and configure PCs for use in the back office and branches.
* Assist with the installation of servers in the back office and branches.
* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware and software problems.
* Provide high level technical support for both branch and back office desktops and servers.
* Perform routine hardware and software upgrades.

Knowledge and Skills Other Than Technical:

IT Adminstrator Internship – Consol Energy, Inc.

Position Summary

IT Post-Graduate Internship/Position with Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for Post-Graduate IT Interns/Developers to work for the Steelers Technology Department with hardware, software, and other systems. The position is for a front-end developer for the company’s in-house programs; the position also involves help desk and user support. The intern will work with the company’s application developer on various tasks and also assist with other user technology projects.

The company is looking for students who have graduated or plan to graduate in the near future. The company wants applicants who are comfortable with a networked computer environment, skilled in HTML or CSS, and interested in design.

DHS 2017 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2017 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative for current undergraduate and graduate college students. This program is a part of the Department’s efforts to build a cybersecurity talent pipeline by working with secondary, post-secondary institutions and other key partners in academia and the private sector. Through the Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative, students are able to learn about the DHS cybersecurity mission by completing hands-on cybersecurity work and building technical experience in key areas such as digital forensics, network diagnostics and incident response.

In the 2017 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative cycle, more than 50 student assignments are available at over 40 local DHS field offices across the country. Participating DHS Components include Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), Management Directorate/Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Office of Policy/Cyber, Infrastructure and Resilience Policy, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and United States Coast Guard (USCG).

The Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative application period is open for applications from December 14, 2016 to January 20, 2017 through USAJOBS.

Foreign Service IT Fellowship

The U.S. Department of State is sponsoring an IT fellowship for students in IT-related majors. There are two different fellowship opportunities: one for undergraduates and one for graduates.

The undergraduate fellowship is available only for sophomores. Accepted applicants will be working for two summer. For one summer, they will work in Washington, D.C. with the Department of State. During the second summer, they will work a Foreign Affairs job at an embassy abroad. The fellowship will also cover $37,500 annually for tuition, room & board, books, fees, and other travel expenses.

The graduate fellowship is available for seniors who have already been accepted into a Master’s or Integrated program. The accepted applicants will do the same jobs in both summers as the undergraduate applicants.

At the end of both the undergraduate and graduate fellowships, the accepted applicants are guaranteed jobs with the U.S. Department of State. Both positions require a five-year commitment after completion of work for the Department of State. Students applying must be currently enrolled in an IT degree.

IT/Engineering Intern – Curtiss-Wright EMD

Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Corporation is looking for an IT/Engineering Intern to work for them staring in January 2017. Curtiss-Wright EMD is a lead supplier of critical function, electro-mechanical products. The company is located in Cheswick, Pennsylvania.

The position will focus on hardware and system administration within a high-end engineering environment. The position will also involve the configuring of Red Hat Linux workstations and clusters, along with engineering SW installation and troubleshooting. The position will also involve hardware roll-outs and upgrades.

Qualifications:

  • G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must have transportation to company location
  • Can work full time, or at least 24-30 hours per week

U.S. Steel Interview for Interns

U.S. Steel will be hiring twenty IT/Computer Security/Cyber Security interns for the 2017 Summer session. The positions will be located at the company’s Service Center in the South Side (Pittsburgh). The company will be conducting interviews at their headquarters location from Friday, November 18th, to Friday, December 2nd.

The internship will start in June 2017, will last between twelve and fourteen weeks, and will be paid. Interns will work in one of the following areas:  Enterprise Applications and Global Business Processes, Global Plant Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning, or Cyber Security.

The following qualifications are necessary for the internship:

  • Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any IT related field
  • Candidates must have completed their sophomore year by June 2017
  • Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

Internship Opening with Dominion Energy (Richmond, Virginia)

There is currently an internship opening in the Richmond, Virginia office of Dominion Energy Company in their Computer Forensics department. This opening is for Criminology and Computer Science students. The intern will be responsible for working with Dominion’s Security Computer Forensic specialist in various facets of the security field. Assisting with research and analyzing automated systems are two key components of the position, along with processing electronic storage devices for evidentiary reasons.

The qualified candidate will fulfill the following requirements:
-General knowledge and understanding of security concepts, and sophisticated security technologies, to support computer forensics.

-Experience with the following operating systems; DOS, Macintosh, Linux, Android, and MS Windows is preferred.

-Experience with office products such as Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access, Excel, email is highly preferred.

-Consistent demonstration of strong, critical thinking and decision making skills, applied in a security environment.

-Ability to assess security incidents and take appropriate action.

-Demonstrated ability to manage the flow of sensitive information.

-Ability to coordinate and manage multiple work processes.

-Experience with Encase Forensic Software, Encase, FTK, Autopsy, Magnet is a plus.
